Been reading about crime since opening of casino. Many of them are going into jail for petty crimes (stealing a $500 cell phone).
Jail time cost money to the state and many of these people are not hardened criminals.
Perhaps some of you lawyer types can help. What is policy for good conduct and early release for this type of crooks. Can't the state give them time off for good conduct and then make them stay at home (at their own expense!) and wear a tracking bracelet.
For example they are throwing the cellphone thief into jail for 4 weeks. If he had a job, a 4 week sentence may very well make him lose his job. However if policy allows him to be out in a week and to wear a bracelet for the remaining 3 weeks, chance are that he may get to keep his job.
Boss might close an eye and let him take 1 week off.
