A 52-YEAR-OLD Singaporean, who accepted free air tickets from her “benefactors” to seek medical treatment overseas, was duped into becoming a drug courier, reported China Press.
She was arrested at an international airport in Sweden for possessing 5kg of heroin in her luggage.
The drug is said to be of high quality and worth RM3.3mil in the market.
The victim, who was reportedly suffering from haemorrhoids, had first befriended her Nigerian benefactors in Kuala Lumpur several months ago.
The Nigerians then agreed to sponsor her air tickets to South America and Europe where she could seek advice from medical experts to treat her ailment.
It was reported that the victim, who worked as a security guard, did not realise that the Nigerians were actually members of an international drug syndicate.
Lounge in Singapore hiring good-looking male models to serve female customers
Sin Chew Daily reported that a lounge in Singapore was drawing customers by hiring good-looking male models to serve female customers.
The models would keep their customers entertained by singing karaoke, chit-chatting and drinking with them but would not provide sexual services.
Their service charges are S$100 (RM243) for a night.
Action won't be taken against rear-seat passengers aged under 15 who do not buckle up
Nanyang Siang Pau reported that action would not be taken against rear-seat passengers aged under 15 who do not buckle up.
Instead, the summonses issued by the enforcement agencies would be passed on to the car owner or driver, said Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Seri Lajim Ukin.
Lajim reiterated that it would be compulsory to wear rear seat belts come Jan 1.
