Sydney ATM blasted in robbery attempt
SYDNEY, Australia - Police and witnesses say an ATM was blown up in an attempted robbery in Sydney, marking the eighth explosive blast for cash in 10 days. They say no one was wounded in the explosion.
Residents of a western Sydney neighborhood say they heard a loud blast around 1:30 a.m Thursday and witnesses say two men were seen leaving the area after the explosion. A police statement says the cash machine was destroyed but the suspects were not able to access the safe and fled the scene.
Forensic officers are analyzing the debris that was strewn all over the street when police and firefighters arrived at the scene.
There has been a series of exploding ATMs across Sydney since July. Sydney police have set up a special task force to investigate the crimes.
