Yesterday watched a social documentary on Phoenix TV.
They discussed about thesis plagiarism at the Chinese Medicine University at Guangzhou.
Get it, it's not done by student but by the Dean of the University, spotted by a lecturer A at the university there.
It was later found out that another lecturer B at the university was "asked" by the wife of the Dean of the University to write the thesis for her husband for the fear of promotional opportunities.
The schools originally wanted to cover the incident, but because of threats against the lecturer B decided to approach lecturer A to tell her the full story.
The story even made it to the blogs. And received many personal attacks instead of discussing about the evidence presented.
The incident was reported to the "higher" authorities. As a result of speaking up, lecturers A & B classes was canceled and lecturer A was asked for an early retirement.
But one good thing that came out of it, the last day of lecturer A class, the students said they are proud to have a teacher like lecturer A. An interview with the lecturer A asked why she did what she did, she said it's her professional obligation to report the incident, and she found that the spirit of chivalry is lacking in her society.
What I am asking is, knowning the human sinful nature, why would the system wants to protect some human's mistakes? Wouldn't it benefits the system more by purging people who committed such mistakes immediately once it is confirmed? But in reality, what we are seeing here is covering up the problems, not addressing the problems at hand? The system will slowly crack and finally crumbled if the problems are not fixed immediately.
There is no such things as a perfect system if the system is basically composed of sinful human beings. It is definitely much harder to cover up the problems rather than fixing the problems by removing those problems by firing the leadership who did wrong.
Otherwise cracks that accumulated, will finally crumble eventually.
A society cannot progress if the system is protected wholeheartedly and ignoring the real underlying problems.
Please, don't stop people from speaking up and have the courage to do the right things!
