A Moroccan citizen was killed in a firefight with the carabinieri in Fara Vicentino (Vicenza).
The forces of order, local police and carabinieri, had intervened after the report that a man was throwing a tantrum and shouting “Allah akbar” in the middle of the street, thus alarming passers-by who asked for the intervention of the forces of order.
According to reports, agents and soldiers tried to calm him down without success, then they tried to immobilize him, but in the scuffle the North African took an ordinance pistol from a carabiniere and started shooting, injuring a traffic policeman.
The carabinieri at that point returned fire, killing the Moroccan.
The injured local police officer is called Alex Frusti, contact person from the Alto Vicentino, who has been transferred to the San Bortolo hospital in Vicenza.
“The agents were doing their routine rounds,” the mayor of Fara Vicentino, Maria Teresa Sperotto explained to journalists, “and they called the carabinieri because they needed support. At that moment the incident must have happened. I regret it for everyone, both for the person who died and for our agent who was injured. The magistrate on duty went to the scene.”
