Mr Mazlan Mohamed, 43, a trailer driver, was at home when he heard his wife shouting at a man who had just splashed paint on the front door of their Jurong flat.

Wearing a T-shirt and his sarong, Mr Mazlan (above, second from left) gave chase, caught the man and helped hand him over to the police.

The result: An award from the police, and a new nickname - Sarong Man.

Said Mr Mazlan's wife: “He is the Sarong Man hero. The neighbours now call him that too.”

Mr Mazlan and 11 others received Public Spiritedness Awards for assisting the police in nabbing criminal suspects.

The awards were given out last week at a ceremony at the Jurong Police Division Headquarters.

Read the full report in The New Paper on Thursday (Oct 4).

If he celebrated it by having a after party then the title should be changed ,Sarong Party Man.
