<!-- START OF : div id="storytext"--><!-- more than 4 paragraphs -->FINALLY, the Chinese version of music game show Don't Forget The Lyrics has started on Channel 8.
However, why is it hosted by a compere who called Singapore his "second home"? Why is it that after so much monetary investment and so many years of recruiting and grooming local talent, MediaCorp is unable to have a Singaporean host?
Overseas variety show hosts are comparatively more accomplished and articulate, and are adept at boosting viewership ratings. However, they often induce laughter by poking fun at their political leaders, teasing the contestants crudely and making a fool out of their co-hosts and guest stars. Male comperes invariably use lewd remarks about the female anatomy to generate laughter. Many unabashedly employ disgusting gesticulations in an attempt to tickle the senses.
We don't need that. I hope our imported host will respect our local audience in general, and our women in particular. There is no need to resort to irreverent actions and innuendoes to please or provoke the crowd. Don't forget civility.
