After YP came across some offensive postings by a certain Eric How, we wanted to find out who was Eric How, if he was a YP member and why did he post such comments. We identified only one Eric How in the database and I called him to find out more.

As Eric shared in his post above, he told me he did not post those comments. He was concerned that the postings would continue, affected his personal life and felt troubled. As we were not able to provide him any further details and he sounded worried, I asked if he would like to make a police report so the police could help look into the matter and through their investigation, provide him some clarity. He made a police report.

Having read the comments made here, I suggest we let the police do their work. At the same time, we should also let Eric continue with his life.

Through this issue, our members should note the dynamics of the internet. Let's strive towards providing constructive comments over the internet and encourage diverse views, in a manner to advance a greater good.

I agree that the innocent Eric How should be left alone to manage his life, but the fact remains that he insinuated that TR tried to malign him. So, the natural thing is for TR to demand he retract his statement. I think if Eric How do just that and maintain the stance of clarifying his actions, netizens will leave him alone. Coupled with your clarifications, I think netizens are reasonable.

I was wondering what took you so long to call Eric How, and the fact that there are many Moderators actively monitoring the postings, makes it even more perplexing. The Mods that are very quick to jump on critics such as Mr Edgar Kieu and Mr Genesis Shen, in fact took no action to do likewise on the "imposter" Eric How. This is the main issue that netizens are really perplexed as it gives an impression (whether correct or not) that the Mods are targeting only critical posts, but allows posts that praises even though it is inappropriate.

In my view, I think the innocent Eric How is making a mountain out of a mole hill. There are at least 50 over "Eric How"s on the facebook. How can he simply conclude that people mistook him for the "merc" Eric How? Common sense will tell you that there can be numerous Singaporeans with the same English name plus just the surname. People don't just simply jump into conclusion easily that 2 persons with the name "Eric How" must be the same person. If you have a name like "John Tan", it's even worse!

With regard to finding out the "certain" Eric How who made those offensive postings, it should have been quite an easy task for you to ascertain his identity cause one of your YPAP mods, Edgar Kieu, is a friend of this "merc" Eric How since he acknowledged "merc" Eric How as his friend on facebook.

How can the "merc" Eric How's offensive postings against netizens be viewed as "constructive debate"? You mods did nothing. There was no warnings or whatsoever to him. You guys simply continued to let him post and allowed him to insult us at least a couple of times! You just stood by and watched. Is this your definition of "constructive debate"?

And to add further insults to the netizens, you made friends with him!!

Edgar think we gundu or what? He is friend on FB with that merc Eric. Give us stupid excuse that impossible to verify identity?! He don't want to identify that merc Eric then say so lar! As the saying goes, birds of a feather flock together.

What can we imply about the friends of merc Eric such as Edgar who are not coming forward to clear up the identity of merc Eric and to denounce the offensive irresponsible statements?
