PUTRAJAYA: An Iranian man who had apparently smuggled drugs into the country by carrying them in his stomach has died of excessive bleeding on Friday when the drugs burst in his stomach.
Doctors at Putrajaya Hospital had to perform an emergency surgery on him after he complained of excessive stomach pain.
The 52-year-old man who arrived at the Low Cost Carrier Terminal on Wednesday evening was rushed to the Kuala Lumpur International Airport medical centre after complaining of acute pain before being transferred to Putrajaya Hospital.
Doctors who performed emergency surgery on him were shocked to find 137 capsules of drugs believed to be Syabu. Doctors removed the drugs weighing 765 grams from his stomach.
Putrajaya police chief ACP Abdul Razak Abdul Majid said the man whose travel documents was in the name of Fathollah Mahadi, 52, died at the hospital’s intensive care unit at about 9.14am.
Abdul Razak said the police did not have much information about Fathollah and were still investigating how he had come into the country.
He said Fathollah’s body was being kept at the Putrajaya Hospital mortuary pending investigation and the Iranian embassy in Kuala Lumpur would be contacted for the burial arrangement.
