Iran hangs convicted rapist
TEHERAN - IRAN has hanged a man in a prison in the south-eastern city of Zahedan after convicting him of rape, the Fars news agency reported on Thursday. The report identified the man sent to the gallows on Wednesday as Jamshid Mir.
His hanging brings to at least 68 the number of people put to death in Iran so far this year, according to an AFP count based on news reports. Last year, at least 270 people were hanged. Murder, rape, armed robbery, drug trafficking and adultery are all punishable by death in Iran. -- AFP
