TEHRAN, Iran – Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman is denying reports that the country's Russian-built Bushehr nuclear power plant has suffered a malfunction.
Abbas Araghchi said at a news conference on Tuesday that no problem has been reported by responsible authorities.
Iran's ambassador to Russia Mohmoud Reza Sajjadi was quoted by Russian state Itar-TASS news agency as saying Monday that the Bushehr facility suffered a malfunction in its main generator.
Araghchi said Sajjadi's comments were likely misrepresented.
The facility is Iran's only operating nuclear power plant and is located on the southern port city of Bushehr on the Persian Gulf.
The plant was officially opened in September 2011.
