A prison guard beat Amirali Minaei, a Christian convert held in Evin Prison, and officials denied him medical treatment despite his chest pain and heart problems.
The Article 18 website reported that guard Mehdi Salim struck Minaei in the chest and heart area.
Prison authorities refused Minaei access to the prison clinic or a cardiologist following the assault.
Minaei had been receiving medical care for pre-existing heart conditions before his imprisonment.
Officials have denied all his requests for medical visits or specialist referrals since the beginning of his sentence.
Authorities arrested the 31-year-old in Tehran on December 7, 2023, later releasing him on bail.
In March 2024, the court sentenced him to 3 years and 7 months in prison and revoked his social rights after convicting him of “propaganda against the Islamic Republic” for his religious activities and for establishing a house church.
