SINGAPORE - A man jumped from a fourth- storey flat in Toa Payoh yesterday after a tenant discovered that he had sneaked inside.
The man, in his 20s, fell face-down. He suffered a fractured pelvic bone and head injuries and was conscious when sent to Tan Tock Seng Hospital.
When the incident occurred, there was only one person inside the three-room flat - a Chinese national who is a bus driver - and she immediately called the police.
It is understood that the man jumped from the rear of the flat when she made the call.
The police said they had received a call requesting assistance at about 8am. When they arrived, they found the man motionless on the ground.
Neighbours said the flat is occupied by six women from China. Five are bus drivers believed to be working at Toa Payoh interchange while one is a student.
A neighbour who declined to be named said one of the flat's occupants had told her they did not lock the door as it could not be closed properly. But one of the flat's occupants, who wanted to be known only as Ms Ke, 38, said they locked the flat every night.
She was not at home when the incident occurred.
When The Straits Times visited yesterday, the door was slightly ajar. The woman who had been at home when the incident happened said she was still in shock.
The Straits Times understands that the injured man is being investigated for housebreaking.
