Watch the video interview here:

http://wayangparty.com/2009/01/05/interview-with-toa-payoh-residents-on-their-hopes-for-2009/

Prologue:

In a recent interview conducted by research firms TNS and Gallup International, 63% of Singaporeans are pessismistic about the new year ahead.

We bring you to the HDB heartland to find out more from the residents their thoughts on 2009.

Results:

1. Will the year 2009 be better than last year ?

Agree: 6 Disagree: 15 Don’t know: 9

2. Do you have confidence in the government in handling the economy ?

Yes: 11 No: 6 No comments: 13

3. If an election is held this year, will you vote for the PAP or the opposition ?

PAP: 13 Opposition: 3 Refuse to answer: 14

Kia su, kia see, kia bor, kia bo, kia bo lui, kia cheng hu.

Who knows that all of the 14 who refuse to answer will vote opposition. After all, why would people who want to vote the PAP be afraid to answer the question.

The final tally could be PAP 13 Opposition 17.

Or what if worse the other way? PAP 27 Opposition 3?

Or what if worse the other way? PAP 27 Opposition 3?

Whichever way, it is interesting to note that when there are only 11 of them having confidence in PAP in solving the economic woes, 13 of them actually want to vote for PAP!

What does it mean? It means that at least 2 of them are voting PAP even when they are unsure or totally have no confidence in PAP solving the economic woes! ;)

Anyway, the straw poll of 30 may be statistically the "magic number" but it is still not a good size for effective analysis, especially so when there are so many no comments and no response.

yes great, opinions of 30 residents reflect the whole population perceptive on Singapore. :D

The great PAP still holds all the loyalty support of the majority population of Singapore. PAP rules! :D

I heard there's another interview of 56 AMK residents, will be published tomorrow.

It's very very difficult to get Singaporeans to be filmed in public, what's more to get them to say openly they support the opposition, you know how fearful they are of politics.

Actually of those who says "No", some simply think the problem is a global one and is beyond the government's means to solve them, not really because they have no confidence in the PAP.

Actually one of the 3 who said they will vote for opposition sound like a SBF forumer, he just go on wacking the PAP, but unfortunately, he refuse to allow his face to be shown or even his voice to be heard as he works in the civil service and is afraid he may be sacked !

It only come to our attention that Mr Chiam See Tong will be retiring by the next general election and his anointed successor to take over him as MP for Potong Pasir and party Secretary-General is Mr Desmond Lim after we visited the Sinagpore People's Party's homepage in preparation for our weekly political blogs' ranking.

As we felt this is an important matter which netizens ought to know, we have taken the liberty to write to Mr Desmond Lim to publish his facebook account and Mr Chiam's testimony of him so that you may get to know him better.

Below is an exchange of emails consisting of our request and his acquiescence:

Or perhaps all the 13 who said they will vote PAP will vote opposition and vice versa. When it comes to voting, people may not be honest when interviewed.

The finally tally may be PAP 3 and opposition 13 + 14 = 27. :D

Anyway, just for fun.

Not necessarily "dishonesty" but certainly sentiments are fluid. Voters only make the decisions that count during polling day.

This is the 2nd interview conducted at Ang Mo Kio. The third one in Bukit Merah has been completed yesterday, yet to see the results.

You may not believe it, but hear it for yourself how the HDB Ah Peks and Ah Sohs have been effusive of their praises of the PAP !!

Even if polling size meets statistical requirements, Singaporeans will not show their hand publicly when it comes to PAP or local politics. Even among close friends, they find it difficult. Ask me about my mother in law in public?

After Cathrine Lim boundary sermon, that approach will remain. Not that Singaporeans are meek, just practical and wait for an opportunity as they did in 91. Unlike some, who consider it a freak result.
