There is this talk in town about the insurance validity for death caused by and due to terrorist attack.

Let me give you an example. Assume MFA had issued a travel warning to India and yet you still went and then got killed by a terrorist attack.

Will the insurance company honour your company group insurance?
Will your own personal insurance be valid?

Is the terrorist attack considered as an accident? Meaning you were there at the wrong time, wrong place and got killed. So, can it fall under personal accident category?

:D

Good question.

Hope the answer will be revealed soon.

Terrorism activities are generally an exclusion to all insurance policies.

There are specific insurance covering terrorism acts, however, they are often very expensive. For example, a $100k coverage for terrorism cost the same as a $600k normal coverage.

That having said, some travel insurance covers trip disruption and delays in event of an terrorism act last more than 6 to 8 hours...but these are minor. No life coverage against terrorism in normal policies...

hope that helps.

Yes, agreed with u, some time terrorist attack also like dead for nothing like tat.

If you want coverage, you should buy life insurance. If your policy has been in-force for the minimum required no of years, you will be paid for the amount you are insured for.

Different insurance companies have different minimum required no of years. This minimum required no of years is to prevent fraud. Typically, the minimum is one year or two years. After one or two years, you will be paid the amount you are insured for, if you die, regardless of the cause including aids, suicide or terrorist attack. :D

I was of the impression that exclusions include Aids, suicide and terrorist attack.

You are giving insurance another piece of business. The possibility of kanna strike by terrorist is way way lower and insurance agent will charge more because of fear factor.

The possibilitiy will not be low if we keep having some big mouths shooting off from the big CFM gapping holes on their faces.

if number of victims are small
yes
in ms lo case, no insurance company will dare not pay
you print the non payment letter on strait times

bad publicity will send insurance boss running

Good question! I wonder under normal circumstances when 1 dies of:
  • Terrorism
  • Murder
  • Man-slaughter
  • Natural Disaster (eg: tsunami, flash flood, landslide etc)
  • Communicable disease (eg: SARS, HFMD, bird flu, influenza etc)

Will the insurance company compensate anything at all?

Actually insurance companies will payout for the above causes of death if it a Life insurance. But must have brought the policy for a period of time, cannot be buy today, tomorrow jump down from flat, confirm no count.

My life policy covers suicide, aids and I believe terrorist attack - actually as long the person mati, the policy pay. But only after the second year because if they don't want people to buy a policy and commit suicide to get money for family. If the person commit suicide some years later, the policy will pay.

Better check it again. All insurance policies do not cover AIDS, unless it is due to transfusion to save life. For terrorist attacks, I don't know cover or not. That's why I asked?

It is definitely covered. As long as I die, irregardless of the cause, the life policy will pay. That is why I picked up the life policy.

Call your life insurance agent to hear it first hand.
