Indonesian woman arrested with RM1.4mil worth of syabu

BUKIT KAYU HITAM: A 28-year-old Indonesian woman was arrested with RM1.4mil worth of syabu at the Immigration, Customs and Quarantine Complex here. The woman was arrested at 3.15pm on Dec 14 at the pedestrian checkpoint during random checking.

Kedah Customs Department director Ishak Ahmad said that the woman was carrying a large bag containing four paintings in frames and several other craft products.

“When we scanned the woman’s bag we saw some odd shapes behind the paintings and we took the woman with her bag to the department Narcotic Unit for further action,” he told newsmen here on Thursday.

He said that the further inspection showed that behind the paintings were a total of 28 plastic packets containing white substance believed to be syabu.

He said the drug weight a total of about 5.6kg and worth about RM1.4mil. “Two of the frames contained eight packets each while the other two frames contained six packets each,” he said.

Ishak said that initial investigation showed that the woman took a bus from Danok in Thailand and was heading towards Johor. He added that the woman claimed that she was on her way home to Jakarta in Indonesia.

Ishak said that the woman was remanded for seven days starting from Dec 15, and the case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for trafficking.
