An Indonesian maid who stole $248,500 from her employer over a one-year period was jailed for 24 months on Wednesday.

Atik Yuli Hastuti, 34, who faced 148 charges, pleaded guilty to 45 charges of theft and removing property from the jurisdiction of Singapore by remitting money to her mother in Indonesia.

She had been a domestic helper for Ms Deborah Ann Henretta, 50, Procter & Gamble's group president for Asia, and her husband since September 2007.

The offences came to light when Ms Henretta's husband, Mr Sean Andrew Murray, 55, went to the DBS Bank's Bukit Timah branch on Feb 22 for personal matters.

He asked for a print out of their joint account and discovered a $2,000 withdrawal at the DBS ATM in ION Orchard.
