AN ELDERLY woman was found dead in her Serangoon Gardens house early on Thursday, and her maid has been arrested.
Police are treating the case as murder.
Madam Sng Gek Wah, 87, had no visible injuries except for a cut to her forehead. Paramedics pronounced her dead at her Farleigh Avenue home at 3.40am.
Her 23-year-old Indonesian maid is said to have fled from the terrace house at about 3am. She stopped a taxi and asked the driver to call the police.
The maid, believed to be named Fitriah, was later arrested at the scene. Neighbours said that she started work there only this month.
Madam Sng had lived in Farleigh Avenue for more than 40 years. Neighbours said she had three sons and a daughter, and had lived alone since her husband's death some years ago.
