Indians laziest people on earth, Chinese 'least lazy': Stanford study
Stanford University researchers have found if given a choice to either drive or walk, most Indians are lazy enough to opt to drive a car irrespective of the distance.
Smartphones tracked walking activity
Stanford University researchers have concluded Indians are the laziest people on earth. The Standford researchers found the Chinese, particularly those living in Hong Kong are "least lazy", where people averaged 6,880 steps per day.
The Stanford University researchers used step-counters installed in smartphones to track the walking activity of about 700,000 people in 46 countries around the world during their study.

The research found if given a choice to either drive or walk, most Indians are lazy enough to opt to drive a car irrespective of the distance. According to the data, Indian women walk even less than the Indian men. While Indian men registered 4,606 daily, women manage to walk barely 3,684 steps.
The worst nation was Indonesia, where people walked just half as much as the Chinese, averaging just 3,513 steps a day.

The study found larger number of steps recorded is associated with lower obesity, but for females, the prevalence of obesity increases more rapidly as step volume decreases (232% obesity increase for females versus 67% increase for males; comparing lowest versus highest activity).

Malaysia, Saudi Arabia & Indonesia at the bottom
The top half of the chart includes Hong Kong, China, Ukraine & Japan walking over 6,000 steps every day; while countries at the bottom of the rung include Malaysia, Saudi Arabia & Indonesia.

The worldwide walking average is 4,961 steps, with Americans walking an average 4,774 steps a day.
Clearly, Indians have a lot of walking to do to catch up with Americans in this 'race'.
