IT IS a first for the International Cricket Council (ICC). And Singapore.
Cricket's world governing body has decided that its annual conference will be held in Singapore from June 27 to July 1.
Late on Wednesday, the ICC's chief executive Haroon Lorgat informed the Singapore Cricket Association (SCA) that Singapore has been selected as the venue - the first time outside London and Dubai - to host the cricket world's biggest meeting of the year.
'The ICC found Singapore an attractive location,' said Imran Hamid, the SCA president. 'Our image as a convention centre city was persuasive. It's an honour for us to host the members from several international cricket bodies.'
The ICC appears to have been swayed by Singapore's famous efficiency and organisational skills, especially its expertise in hosting the International Olympic Committee meeting in 2005 and winning the bid for the Youth Olympic Games in August.
More than 150 delegates and staff from nearly 50 countries are expected for the five-day event, which will see important meetings of the ICC executive board, chief executives' committee and sub-committees.
