<!-- START OF : div id="storytext"--><!-- more than 4 paragraphs -->Last Sunday's article by Dr Lee Wei Ling, 'My house is shabby, but it is comfortable', struck a chord with me and, I believe, with many other Singaporeans as well.
I used to be under the impression that Dr Lee was a wealthy woman who drove a Porsche and held exclusive club memberships.
But after reading her article, I realised how wrong I was.
Resisting ostentatious consumerism requires much discipline. It has its benefits. Imagine losing all your worldly possessions. The impact of such a change on one's lifestyle would be felt less by someone who has led a simple life.
Dr Lee reminds me of billionaire investor Warren Buffett. Despite his fabulous wealth, he is said to lead a relatively simple life.
Her view also reminds me of the Gandhian philosophy of self-reliance and simple living.
I hope Dr Lee will continue writing and expressing her views.
She will be surprised that many people share her views. R. Asokan

nothing wrong with what she said

if you substitute her name with Sally Tan, she would make a lot of sense

you hate her father, therefore you project your hate on the daughter

that says a lot about you not her

This indian FT piece of shit dun realise that 95% of s'poreans can only dream of living in a house, and they will take any house regardless of how shabby. If Dr. Lee really want to be one of the people, she should move into a HDB flat. Otherwise, she is just another rich elite.
