I AM writing to ask if the authorities will compensate retailers in the Suntec City Mall area, for the severe disruptions leading to drastic sales shortfalls during last month's Formula One event.
Much has been spoken about the Government effort to facilitate the event and how it will benefit Singapore in the long term. There has also been much press about the $150 million spent to host the Grand Prix.
However, we have thus far seen nothing from the authorities and our landlord in terms of restitution for the drastic sales shortfalls suffered by many retailers. None of these retailers asked to be placed in a situation, where they would suffer such losses, and none of these retailers would relish the prospect of suffering five years in a row.
Even an email sent to the office of the Senior Minister of State, Mr S. Iswaran, has not met with a reply. I would be very interested to hear what concrete restitution the authorities are proposing to us. Tan Mien Wee
