OVER-ENTHUSIASTIC tourists are damaging the tiles at the base of the Merlion and putting themselves in danger - just to get that postcard-perfect photo.
They trample on the 'waves' at the base of the Merlion, causing damage to the tiles. Imagine someone getting a deep cut because of the broken tiles, or worse, a child slipping and falling into the Singapore River.
The Singapore Tourism Board or the authorities concerned should do something before someone gets hurt or more damage is done to the Merlion.
Those cheap plastic chains surrounding the Merlion obviously do nothing to deter people from climbing over. Perhaps the next time the Merlion has a facelift - I hope before the Youth Olympic Games in August - a planter bed of bougainvillea (prickly but pretty) could be placed around the base to protect the landmark from the mob of tourists thronging the park every day.

It's raining these few days, woe betide the apuneh in white sarong if a bolt of pappy signage misses the merlion's head and gives him a "wake-up" call or else he should have three "strikes" of the rotan for vandalism:D

There should be a burly looking indian guard with a 6ft cane standing on guard 24 hrs like in the supermarket in india, these guys can spot the genuine buyers from the itchy hand inbreed. Or SPB can always set up a counter for PAY TO TOUCH & TRAMPLE money collection for the maintenance, or a payment sentry. Top brass only wants money, they can pimp out everything anyway!

STB said its "Your Singapore" so technically Ah Nehs are not wrong to take things that are theirs, as souvenirs.

aiyah...so simple...keep cows there loh...the Indians will kowtow to the merlion instead.:p

nah...it shld be half dragon half cow - representing our 2 major source of FTs - China & India.

Even better - Cow + Loong = Kowloon.

Which half dragon and which half cow? If you put dragon head, ah neh not happy and vice versa.

I suggest to retain the lion head with dragon body and tail. And instead of spitting water, they should change it to a speaker that make the sound: MOOooooooooo........

Like that everyone will be happy!

Or the mer-lion-dragon must sway head side to side when it spout water.

We must accept them and embrace them into our society.

Not much coconut trees in singapore. So dance around merlion lah...

Can we spray some air refresher or cover merlion face with a mask. Poor thing, must tahan the smell...

There are. The stretch at the East Coast Park and the next one leading to the airport? Lots of song and dance opportunities there.
