Denied visa-free transit

FOR some time, Singapore has had in place a Visa Free Transit Facility (VFTF) applicable to nationals of countries such as India and China, who would normally require a visa to enter Singapore.
Under the scheme, travellers in transit to or from any third country by air will be eligible for a 96-hour VFTF if they are in possession of a valid onward air ticket departing within the next 96 hours and possess a valid visa issued by one among a select list of countries (including the United States and Britain).
Two of my friends have used this facility within the last two years without encountering any problems at Singapore Immigration.
However, my nephew, who was due to arrive in Singapore from Shanghai to spend three days with us before catching an onward flight to India, was not allowed to avail himself of the VFTF by Singapore Airlines' check-in staff at Shanghai airport, even though he met the criteria.
The staff refused to accept the existence of the VFTF and insisted on booking him straight through to India, merely transiting at Changi Airport.
The airline's check-in staff could have been more proactive by attempting to access the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority's hotline instead of taking the easy negative way out. Singapore needs the tourist dollar and cannot afford to be complacent in the matter.

WTF? Now foreigner vs foreigner issue also Sinkieland's problem?

Indian Transit Tourist -> foreigner
SIA Shanghai Airport Check-in staff, most likely contractor -> foreigner

What does this have to do with Sinkieland? Please go write to SIA or Shanghai airport directly. Incident didn't even happen in Sinkieland.

Singapore is obviously been seen as a SUPER-SUCKER by the international community. Evey foreigners expects only to come here to take advantage and nothing less.

This is stupid. His nephew should have been aware of the visa requirements. I think there was something else that was not done right (improper), that's why the immigration officer did not let him into Singapore. But it's sad because ppl now think they can throw money at Singapore and Singapore is treated like a whore...

Can't blame them.. The message to them is it's "Your Singapore"...
