Illegal online gambling rife in Johor

CHINA Press published an exclusive report about the spread of illegal online gambling activities in Johor Baru over the past few months.
It said that some of these centres even operated 24 hours daily and the operators also provided food and drinks to their clients.
A reader told the daily that many residents who patronised the centres lost a lot of money.
A man, who only wanted to be identified as Lim, told the daily that he hoped the media would highlight more reports on the gambling menace.
During a check, reporters found that many residents knew about the existence of illegal gambling centres in their neighbourhoods.
They said most of the gambling centres were located on the upper floor of shophouses.
Some businessmen in a residential area said the centres operated secretly in shoplots without signboards to avoid detection.
In Taman Sentosa alone, there were at least 10 illegal gambling centres, which provided online slot machines and online rotary tables.
Operators’ of the gambling centres are quite careful and do not allow unfamiliar faces inside.
