SINGAPORE: An illegal gambling den operating under the guise of an association in Geylang has been busted.
Police arrested 10 men for operating, assisting and gaming in the establishment.
One of the suspects, aged 41, operated the illegal gambling den while the other nine were patrons of the den.
Police seized four electronic mahjong tables and about S$400 in cash.
Nine of the suspects will be charged in court on Friday.
Investigations against the tenth suspect are ongoing.
If found guilty of managing a place as a common gaming house, the man can face a fine of up to S$50,000 and be jailed for up to three years.
Anyone found guilty of gaming in a common gaming house can be fined up to S$5,000 or be jailed up to six months or both.
Police said those who knowingly allow their business premises or residential activities to be used for unlawful activities can expect to face the full brunt of the law if they are found to be liable.
