The company issued a recall for the handmade Rund glasses, which come in three sizes, after a dozen broke injuring a number of people.
But Ylva Magnusson, an Ikea spokeswoman, said none of the injuries were serious.
Ikea's UK press office said that that 1,562 Rund glasses were sold in Britain when they were on sale during October last year, and the company stressed that anybody owning one should stop using it "immediately" before returning it to the shop for a full refund as the "company did not compromise on safety".
An investigation carried out by Ikea revealed that variations in glass thickness had caused the breakages.
The recall will come as a blow to the Swedish company, whose reputation for offering for offering solid and reliable products has helped it become one of the world's leading retailers, and one of the most recognisable brands in Europe.
The company now employs 127,000 people in 280 outlets in 38 countries, and generates annual sales of about £20 billion.
