June 21 — A taxi driver in Hong Kong has been charged with false imprisonment after driving away with a Malaysian woman as soon as her husband got out of the car at their hotel in Kowloon.
Local police said the husband, a 26-year-old Malaysian and his 25-year-old Malaysian wife hailed a taxi to take them back to their hotel in Tsim Sha Tsui early last Sunday morning after a night of drinking at a bar, South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported today.

Upon reaching the hotel, the husband got out to get help from hotel staff to take his intoxicated wife to their room, but the taxi driver drove off with the woman.
The husband was said to have called the police immediately.
According to the news report, the 51-year-old taxi driver drove the woman back to the hotel where he was arrested by police who by then were at the scene.
Investigators later found that he had taken the woman to a construction site and kept her there for about 30 minutes.
The taxi driver was charged at the Kowloon City Court yesterday and is set to reappear in court in August.
SCMP reported that the Malaysian couple had arrived in Hong Kong earlier this month for a holiday.
The news reports did not name the Malaysian couple or the taxi driver who was charged.
