THE People's Action Party (PAP) team at Holland-Bukit Timah GRC has questioned the political motivations of Singapore Democratic Party (SDP) candidate Vincent Wijeysingha, pointing to an online video that shows him at a forum discussing gay issues.
The PAP team, led by Community, Youth and Sports Minister Vivian Balakrishnan, said in a statement on Monday night that the video 'promotes gay causes' and the forum discussion had touched on topics like
'sex with boys and whether the age of consent for boys should be 14 years of age'.

'We believe that candidates should be upfront about their political agenda and motives, so that voters are able to make an informed choice,' said the statement, signed off by Dr Balakrishnan, and his teammates, Mr Christopher De Souza, Mr Liang Eng Hwa and Ms Sim Ann.
'The issue is not Wijeysingha's sexual orientation. That is a matter for him. The video raises the question on whether Dr Wijeysingha will now pursue this cause in the political arena and what is the SDP's position on the matter.'
Dr Wijeysingha, 41, a civil society activist, is anchoring the SDP team contesting Holland-Bukit Timah, along with Mr Tan Jee Say, Dr Ang Yong Guan, and Ms Michelle Lee.
The video that the statement appears to refer to is a six-minute clip posted on Youtube on April 14.
It was taken during a public forum held last November by lawyer M Ravi on his constitutional challenge to the Section 377A clause of Singapore's penal code, which criminalises sex between men.
The SDP said that it would respond to the 'PAP's smear politics of discrimination and divisiveness' later on Monday night, said its media spokesman James Gomez.
