He was a general worker and therefore did not have much money in his Medisave. Anyway, whatever he had in his medisave was deducted by the hospital during his 19 days of hospitalisation in a class C ward. Do you know how much SGH charged a patient for a 19 days stay in a class C ward? It's more than $19,000.(inclusive of minor surgery, blood test, this test, that test, food, etc, etc, etc)
However, my brother hospital bill was subsidised by the govt. and he needed only to pay $3000 plus. But he had only $1000 plus in his medisave, so he owed SGH $1800 even as died.
Today, I received a call from SGH who asked me if I am the relative of my brother. She told me that my brother still owed SGH medical bill of $1800 and asked me if I or any of his next of kin can pay for him. That's what I told her :" You can claim the money from the government or you can also claim from Medifund as my deceased brother died single and his relatives are poor and cannot help him"
The woman was stunned by my words and said yes, yes, and hang up. Justice was thus done.
