I hate to say "I told you so" but the fact is that masks do nothing to stop the spread of Covid

Angmo have too much socializing and dining, like to hug and kiss ..you can't wear mask with this kind of activities..Their social behaviors are cause of their high infection.
This message is being echoed over and over but I still can't find any data to show that masks work. The stats from various countries seem to suggest the opposite.

Sweden’s health authorities reiterated their skepticism toward face masks on Thursday, despite evidence that the coronavirus is spreading rapidly through the country and putting more people into intensive care.
“We don’t see that we are at a point where we might recommend general use of face masks on public transport,” Karin Tegmark Wisell, head of the Public Health Agency in Stockholm, told reporters on Thursday. “Face masks shouldn’t be used as an excuse not to keep a distance.”
The policy has drawn sharp criticism from the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, which awards Nobel Prizes in Physics, Chemistry and Economics. It published a statement earlier in the day in defense of masks.
“In order to reduce transmission quickly, we should use all tools at our disposal, and that includes face masks and improved ventilation,” Staffan Normark, microbiology professor and chairman of the Academy’s expert group, said in a statement.
Sweden, which has a much higher COVID-19 death rate than other Nordic countries, has so far avoided a lockdown. The country has instead relied on voluntary measures in an effort to get Swedes to stay far enough apart to avoid infecting each other.
But the latest infection rates show the strategy is faltering, and Prime Minister Stefan Lofven has stepped up his rhetoric to urge people to do more, or face a “really dark” winter with the virus.

On Thursday, the number of coronavirus cases in Sweden soared above 200,000, and 6,340 have died after being infected with the virus. The number of COVID-infected people in intensive care beds doubled to 182 over the past fortnight.
Earlier this week, Lofven took what he called the “unprecedented” step of banning public gatherings of more than eight people. From Friday, no sales of alcohol will be permitted after 10 p.m.
The Academy says it supports the World Health Organization’s advice to wear masks, keep rooms well ventilated and keep a physical distance from other people.

There is loads of capacity so there is nothing much to worry about.

what stands out is the 3 countries that didnt require masks and have low cases are all the nordic countries.

perhaps they had less contact with China than the others. european countries with large number of cases in the early days of the virus all had large trade links with China.

NZ was full of chinese tourists when the virus struck but it did very well and masks are not required here either.

More and more regulations are being imposed on rich pricks to pander to the needs of the losers of society. I was already planning to leave NZ this year but Covid has put paid to my plans for the time being.
it's called socialism...

good for you. I hope you have a great time when you finally get there.

The irony of the situation is that moving to a communist country will allow me more freedom than "democratic" NZ.
they're communist in name only. really a feudal autocracy which all communist states eventually devolve into. No communist country has escaped that eventuality.

NZ and other "progressive" democracies are all subject to the tyranny of the masses. They also evolve eventually to a race to to the bottom to placate the lowest common denominator that is capable of voting.

I am jealous. Increasing obligations prevent me from taking your path. Please allow me to live vicariously through you.

Bought means I paid money to the right people so that I can build a home on that section and live there till i drop dead.

enjoy! at least when you finally get there. try not to drop dead too quickly from too much sexercise. I'll miss the banter.

I was a naive Sinkie when I decided to move from dictatorship Singapore to a Western democracy where human rights and personal liberties were protected... or so I thought.

A couple of decades later and it is becoming increasingly stifling and the list of what I can and cannot do with my own money grows almost daily.

I'm moving to VN. I have already established myself financially there with money going to the right people to facilitate whatever I wish to do there. Money does not talk in NZ. It hinders. In many countries in SEA money does what it is supposed to do which is purchase privileges. I can't take my money with me so I'm using it please myself in VN instead of having it taken off me in NZ and handed over to some single mother with 7 children from 5 different fathers.

I'm sure many posters will follow this with great interest.

Might one ask as why Vietnam over the other ASEAN countries?

very much agree with you. I can relate very well with your position. (not that I'm as successful as you!). Anyone with a modicum of spare funds becomes an automatic target of socialist politics. I'm afraid that democracies always end up with the great mass of losers dictating what the winners should or shouldn't do. With the possible exception of the US, western democracies are rich-unfriendly. Personal liberty is actually a joke. I felt far freer in Singapore back in the last millennium than in any Western democracy. Of course everyone thought I was nuts.

Despite all the shit and goings on in South East Asia, it's still a pretty darn good place. Keep us posted. Would love to hear your thoughts and feelings once you get settled in.

Wear a mask properly
https://edition.cnn.com/2020/11/22/health/coronavirus-how-to-protect-yourself-wellness/index.html

It's simple, but wearing a mask properly is one of the most important ways you can protect yourself and those around you, health experts say.
A recent report by the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington found that if 95% of Americans wore masks, almost 70,000 lives would be saved.

N95 masks offer the best protection, but they are in short supply, and the CDC is asking people not to go out and buy them, because they are urgently needed by health care workers.
Washable, breathable cloth masks will do the job, but they should have at least two layers -- three are better -- and you can add a filter for more protection.
Masks should cover both your nose and mouth, and should fit snugly, with no gaps.

Goggles or face shields aren't necessarily recommended for eye protection if you are not a health care worker or are in high-risk situations, health experts have said.
Not sure how to choose a mask? Check out these guidelines.

Choosing the best mask to protect you and others, according to new CDC guidelines
(CNN)It's official -- wearing a mask not only protects others from your expelled respiratory droplets, it protects you as well, according to new guidance from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

"The evidence is piling up that masks work in terms of driving down the risk for everyone," said Harvard environmental health researcher Joseph Gardner Allen, who directs the Healthy Buildings program at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.

But what type of mask will offer you and others the best protection from any novel coronavirus circulating in the air?
"You want to have a minimum two-ply mask, preferably a three-ply mask," said Allen, who has focused his career on "sick buildings" and how they affect worker performance and productivity.
Stay away from bandanas and gaiter masks unless that's all that's available. A recent study found both types to be the least effective in terms of protection.
"In addition to level of filtration, we have to pay attention to fit," Allen continued. "You want the mask to go over the bridge of the nose, below the chin and be flush on the face, resting along the skin. You want your breath going through the filter media and not escaping out the sides."
