A furious husband sprayed insect repellent into his wife's mouth and tried to burn her hand in a hot wok filled with boiling oil for being cold towards him, reported Harian Metro.

The allegedly drunk man had earlier picked up the 26-year-old woman at her work place and was seen scolding her in the car.

A source told the paper that the woman would normally retaliate but this time she remained quiet, hoping that her husband would refrain from his usual brutal advances.

When they got back to their home at Taman Bukit Segar in Cheras, the wife went straight to the kitchen to prepare his dinner.

The husband, not pleased with her silent treatment, called her to the living room and asked for an explanation for her behaviour.

He then kicked her and grabbed the insect repellent, sprayed it into her mouth, dragged her to the kitchen and tried to soak her hand in a hot wok of boiling oil.

The source said the woman fought back, broke free and fled to a neighbour's house for help. She later lodged a police report over the incident on Saturday evening.

She told police that her husband started abusing her since they got married three months ago and even while they were on their honeymoon.

She said he once threatened to splash boiling water on her face.

The victim was sent to the hospital for treatment and is currently staying with relatives.
