An Indonesian national was jailed for 18 months on Monday for stabbing his wife when they were here on a social visit.
Soewarsono Aris, 61, admitted to stabbing Madam Kie Gek Bwee, 56, on her abdomen, thighs and chest at a flat in Eunos Crescent on Jun 5.
The court heard that the couple were sharing a bedroom with their two grandchildren when Soewarsono slammed the door, making a loud banging sound.
Madam Kie told him not to slam the door loudly as it would wake up the grandchildren.
Unhappy that she had made the remark in the presence of their son-in-law earlier, he accused her of showing him no respect. He slapped her during an argument.

The 61-year-old Indonesian Chinese man had been angry at his wife for making him "lose face" in front of their son-in-law. In return, he stabbed his 56-year-old wife Mdm Xie Yu Mei twice in her abdomen, four times on right thigh, once on her left thigh and once on her chest.
Mdm Xie had to undergo an emergency operation to save her life as her internal organs and intestines were hurt in the attack.
In his mitigation, the man's four children all submitted letters to plead on his behalf. There was however, no such letter from his wife.
To this, the judge told him, "You should be earning your wife's forgiveness, not mine!"
The man's eldest daughter described to reporters what happened on the evening of the bloody attack.
The incident had happened at her Eunos flat when her parents were in Singapore to visit her and her family.
She explained that her parents often quarreled and on that day, her mother, Mdm Xie had told her husband that he was better off going back to Indonesia and never returning to Singapore.
The furious man then took a knife and stabbed Mdm Xie while their daughter sobbed and begged for her father to stop.
Meanwhile, her husband called the police alleging that his father-in-law wanted to kill all of them.
