Two Malaysians, who jumped bail after being charged with ‘kelong’ in Singapore, appear to be ‘active’ in Kuala Lumpur. One of them, Thanasegar S. Sinnaiah, is looking for financiers and has been trying to sell his stake in a Malaysian football club for RM1.2 million (S$500,000), said a source.
The Singaporean source said it was due to his betting habit.
Added the source: “(Thanasegar) makes his money from behind the scenes – betting on the games (played by his football club) and using his winnings to partially support the management.”
A Malaysia-based source, on the other hand, also offered other reasons: “Thanasegar wants to take over the Premier League and Presidents’ Cup.
“With stronger financial backing, he would have ‘flexibility’ in controlling some teams within the leagues,” said the source.
Meanwhile, Italian court papers showed that several alleged foreign match-fixers had been given "5-star treatment" here since 2009. The men were treated to parties, luxury hotel stays, beautiful women and the occasional games at the casinos, said a source.
While in Singapore, they were supposedly hosted by Dan Tan Seet Eng, who is allegedly the syndicate head who had fixed Serie A and Serie B matches since 2008.
