Human sacrifice suspected in 10-year-old girl's murder

A GRISLY murder of a 10-year-old girl, whose naked body was found hanging from a tree near a temple in Perumal Koil Karadu, some 300km from Chennai, may be a child sacrifice, reported Malaysia Nanban.

Villagers, who found the body after the girl was reported missing by her parents, claimed that a group of men had come looking for hidden treasure a few days ago.

The girl, who went missing from her home on Friday, had been sleeping with her labourer parents in their small house. However, at around 1.30am, her mother woke up to find her missing.

Villagers found her body several hours later hanging from the tree near a temple, about 1km away from her home.

The men had asked villagers about rumours of buried treasure in the area.

>Tamil Nesan reported that a 36-year-old policewoman jumped into a river in Chennai to save a drunk man.

A boy had alerted Usha Rani, who was on duty at a police booth, that the man had jumped into the river.

When she rushed to the river, she saw the man in the water and threw him a bicycle tube that she had grabbed from a nearby shop.

However, the man had lost consciousness. Usha Rani then jumped into the river and managed to drag him to safety.
