Human greed and immorality the core reason for current gridlockThai politics.
Just watching the CNA coverage of the Thai political gridlock and the most recent military coup, I conclude that corruption and wealth inequality (due to greed/ immorality) are the main causes of all the infighting which might get worse if the current military general fails to find a solution to the political gridlock.
Sad that the king Bumiboi Aduneded is so old and sick (spends most of the time in hospital).
Anyhow, maybe corruption is the consequence of a lack of morals and integrity. From my sec school understanding of WW2 history, Thailand allowed the Japanese army through pass into Malaya in exchange for leaving Thailand intact... In other words, they were quite happy to be on the side of greedy aggressors so long as they were left alone (received benefit).
Maybe ASEAN didn't then exist, maybe politics then was complicated (Dutch vs British controlling parts of SE Asia)- in some way- the seeds of immorality were then down when Thailand chose what was convenient over what was righteous/ right (I.e. fight to retain soverignity, refuse through pass and force the Japs to fight their way through)
Currently, people of different social strata support different political parties: the rice farmers (poor people) support Taksin (red shirts/ PueThai), the City folk (richer people/ Democrat party) support the king (Yellow shirts): there are more poor people and so Taksin/ Pue Thai always wins elections: and then rice farmers get a bonanza (pork barrel politics) through the recently labeled corrupt rice 'pledging scheme' by YingLuck that overpaid rice farmers for rice as a form of kick back for voting her party to parliament.
That politics has degraded into a disgraceful grab for power to profit solely oneself/ own supporters etc.
The King needs to come out with a convincing plan to improve rural infrastructure and access to education/ utilities/ inet-telecommunications etc to level up their opportunities with city folk. Otherwise, the gulf between rich vs poor, rural vs town folk will never be bridged and perhaps even degrade into civil war if the current military leadership is seen to favour one political fraction more than the other.
One's family's $$$ standing nor ones birth place in Thailand SHOULDN'T determine ones lot in life. Red shirts perhaps DO NOT support their king simply because they have note faith in Taksin regime to improve their lot in life. Currently, yhe red shirts do not denigrate their king publicly, however one cannot help but conclude that the red shirt protesters think the democrat party (yellow shirt supporters) and the King are in some ways in cahoots with each other.
For King Bumiboi to maintain his legitimacy and unite Thailand, King Bumiboi should be seen to impartially support the most needy of Thai people, especially the rural poor who form the majority in poverty: otherwise, Thai reverence for their king will dissolve, and chaos will overrun Thailand.
