Singapore Health Promotion Board (HPB) should please take down its fettish lifestyle blog...
Firstly, the SG govt is supposed to be secular and budget conscious, so it should be careful not to thread or support issues lacking in in firm scientific evidence.
At present, homosexuality, as I understand is more of a lifestyle choice, just like tobacco, alcohol, holidays and 4D gambling- luxuries certainly in no critical way essential for life.
Secondly, LKY declared that he is already at wits ends and probably lost the battle trying to make Singaporeans increase birth rates, so I cannot see how promoting homosexual lifestyles can do anything constructive towards this end- the more web pages churned, the more bonus a civil servant earn is it? Isn't the self contradiction another waste of precious $$$???
Thirdly, in sampan2.0, there isn't even a poverty line to begin with (although there is a minimum wage guideline for politicians such that no in-office politician can draw a salary below a certain national percentile point)- so why is HPB dawdling over an issue of personal lifestyle choice? HPB should be presenting plain medical science facts such as that the rate of HIV amongst homosexuals is higher than that of their heterosexual counterparts and let kids make their choice. Otherwise, how to keep healthcare costs low if everyone prefers the lifestyle choice of being homosexual and national HIV rates hit the roof? Do taxes have to be raised yet further to subsidies/ pay these medical bills???!!!
Admittedly, I haven't scrutinized the whole website, but for a start, can the secular government please just present medical facts rather than waste $$$ on guidelines that advocate no more than just expensive fettish/ personal preference? We elected professional leaders, not cult figures to turn government websites into their personal lifestyle choice blog, or to waste public money on self-contradictory popularity wayang shows...

Not appropriate for HPB to tackle gay issues
THE Health Promotion Board's (HPB) publication of Frequently Asked Questions on sexuality has drawn plenty of responses from the public ("FAQs on sexuality prompt two opposing petitions"; yesterday).
I, too, am concerned over the content and timing of its posting.
First, the HPB clearly takes the stand that homosexuality, which also implies homosexual acts, is normal, healthy and not much different from heterosexuality.
While there are studies that support this, there are others that show otherwise.
Also, homosexuality is a topic that extends beyond science and biology into the moral and religious realms.
By taking a stand, the HPB is showing insensitivity and disregard towards a significant portion of the population who hold a differing view.
Second, the HPB's stand contradicts Section 377A of the Penal Code, which criminalises sex between men.
This law is being challenged in the courts, and it is not prudent for the HPB to come out with its official stand at this point in time.
The contentious issue has the potential to create serious fault lines in society, and the HPB should exercise more caution when dealing with it.
In multicultural and multi-religious Singapore, I would propose that issues regarding human sexuality - from handling homosexual issues to sexuality education in schools - be handled by a special agency that looks at it from a broader and more balanced perspective, taking into consideration the moral and religious aspects.
