After the PRC bus incident and the country held to ransom by a few foreign women, this actual incident might help people act with some sense.
A batch of young pilots were completing their course in the Air Wing of the Royal Malaysian Police Force. A week before the completion of the final module, 2 of the trainees turned up wearing muslim outfit including religious headgear showing early signs of a beard. When questioned by the instructor, they said that its a muslim country and they had every right to wear appropriate attire befitting the religion.
As it was a sensitive issue, the class was stood down and the matter referred up the chain. It went all the way up to Mahathir with the recommendation to charge them for insubordination. Mathair countermanded the recommendation and told the Police Force not to dignify these chaps with a charge. He gave instructions for them to be physically thrown out of the camp including all their clothes and personal belongings. They also had their names struck off payroll.
These chaps were expecting in the worst case senario to be charged and to use the court platform for their agenda. When they realised the humiliation of being thrown out like a a two-bit drunk, they broke down and pleaded for mercy. No dice, they were literally thrown onto to the roadside with their belongings scattered. The morale shot up, the zealots suddenly became secular and senior staff started to make courageous decisions. This was early in his term as PM.
Our Commissioner of Police should be hauled up by Parliament and asked to explain why he brought the country into disrepute over the bus incident.
