I thought Thai rice is preferred here and Thailand has a large stockpile of rice.
Why need to risk nuclear contamination with the 300 kgs of Japanese rice?
Maybe send the nuclear rice to Istana not supermarket.

We cannot rely on others (here the Japanese) to do the testing and merely accept their certification at face value. One just need to take a look at how Tepco (the company in charge of the nuclear power plants at Fukushima) has mismanaged (actually outright LIED) to everyone on the REAL situation at Fukushima to realize this.
Our own AVA has only been issuing motherhood statements like "it is within" safe limits". We want to know the DETAILED test results for all the various brands that have been tested.

Does AVA have the necessary eqipment and skill to detecting minute amounts of radioactive substances? If so, highlight them to all Singaporeans. Relying on Japan's " certification " that these rice all fit for consumption is ridiculous. In the aftermath of the nuclear disaster, government agencies cover ups of the level of radioactivity from soil to water......has been rampant. Will our PM be the first to buy the rice , cook it and eat?

Stated above : " The lifting of the ban then raised health concerns from members of the public in Singapore. When questioned about this, the Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority of Singapore (AVA) said food products imported from Japan are safe for consumption.
A member of the public asked the AVA on its Facebook page then if the agency would impose “prominent labelling” of such foods in Singapore, with labels to indicate that such food products are “Imported from Fukushima” so that consumers can make informed choices.
In its reply, the AVA did not say if it would impose labelling on the products but it did say, “We have been monitoring food imports from Japan and rest assured that our surveillance results have been satisfactory.” (See update below.)
The AVA also said that before it lifted its restrictions, it “had carried out a comprehensive risk assessment on the safety of the food supply in Japan.”
It added, “Before food can be imported from Fukushima, the Japanese authorities have to show evidence of satisfactory surveillance results for radioactive contamination. E.g. the radioactive levels in the areas of food production are required to be within Japan’s safety standards.” "
Response : All of us mostly will be eating outside at hawker centres often and surely will eat the Fukushima's rice sooner or later . The long term effects which happens years later after eating cannot be ignored . Who knows , maybe got cancer ten years later and that maybe caused by Fukushima's contaminated rice ? How to prove ten years later ?
If got any problem , will the AVA take responsibility ? Which person in the AVA should hold that responsibility ? Pls identify that person inside the AVA who make that decision to allow such import of Fukushima's rice and willing to take the responsibility if anything unfortunate happens . No name from AVA ????

I am seriously disappointed and saddened by this decision from our govt. Do we have to take this kind of risk? What is the rationale behind this? I am very sure we are not lack of other sources.

As of today, the Fukushima I Nuclear Power Plant is still leaking radioactive water to
the surrounding ocean and land. How in the world is it possible that the
produce from around the Fukushima Prefecture not be contaminated? This is playing Russian roulette with the lives of Singaporeans!! What an irresponsible PM! The PM should be the first
one to demonstrate the safety of the rice by eating the rice faithfully for 3
years. A relapse will occur very shortly.

We should invite our leaders to eat 'Fukushima Japanese nuclear rice' and will see how is the direct bad impact to our health.
Singapore quality of life is just getting bad to the worst by eating 'any thing cheap food............'

This is completely and utterly unacceptable.
If you value your life in Singapore, please don't eat that rice. Japan has been mixing good rice with bad and shipping it all over Japan and the world. Rice has to be checked with a scintillation counter (not a geiger counter). If they can't say how they checked it, and they won't label it, just don't eat it.
Also, complain very loudly that you don't want anything from Fukushima on your store shelves. This is basic health safety - something TEPCO and the Japanese government obviously don't care about.

Normally, commodities have to be checked for 2 hours in a inspection machine to check radioactive. But JA (the Central Union of Agricultural Co-operatives in Japan) checks them only in 10 seconds.

Smh! The PM blatantly putting the health of people at risks just for some free trade deal n agreement.
It is pragmatic practice n can be forgiven, if a top govenment leader lied to another top country leader for the benefits of his people > Japan, here in this case.
But is unforgiveable for a top government leader to lie to cheat his own people for the benefits of another country, putting the health of his people at risk> Singapore in this case.
