PA opening
'The fireworks display must have cost a bomb.'

MR TAN SHAO KEN: 'The opening ceremony of the People's Association's (PA) new headquarters was a grand affair. But what surprised me was the fireworks display, which must have cost a bomb. How much was it, and if it was expensive, was it necessary? It seems uncharacteristic for a grassroots organisation whose function is to help as many people as possible to splurge on items like a fireworks display. To promote the motto 'bringing people together', the PA could have held a getai show in tandem with other multiracial performances.'
