Why the local apuneh community so concerned about some nepalese lose their homes due to earthquake and raised $250K for them, but raised kosong for those merchants in Little India who faced property losses and business losses during the Little India riots?.
SINGAPORE: The local Indian community has partnered with the Red Cross Society to raise an estimated S$250,000 for the Nepal Earthquake Relief Fund.
Their 10-day fundraiser comes to an end on Sunday (May 10). Partners include the Little India Shopkeepers and Heritage Association, MediaCorp Vasantham, Oli 96.8FM and other organisations.
A steady stream of people has been stopping at a small donation box in front of Little India Arcade to give whatever they can. They said that it does not matter even if the amount they give is not substantial as every little bit will add up.
The funds raised will be handed over to the Singapore Red Cross Society on Monday.
