Housewife 'takes on' burglar by filming break-in

A HOUSEWIFE who took on a brazen burglar by filming him trying to break into her flat described yesterday how she was thrown into "panic" by the ordeal - and even considered hitting him with a guitar.
Madam Siti, 45 - who did not want to give her full name - had been asleep when she was woken by her 18-year-old son alerting her that someone had tried to get in through a window at around 10.30am on Monday.
They looked on in horror as the man returned to their four-room Woodlands Housing Board flat moments later and made a second attempt to dislodge the window.
But when he tried a third time, Madam Siti was waiting to film him with her mobile phone.
She made a police report and that afternoon posted a four-second clip on Facebook where it had attracted more than 3,000 shares and 119,000 views yesterday.
Madam Siti, who hopes the clip will help to catch the person, told The Straits Times: "When my son woke me up saying someone was trying to break into our house, I thought he was trying to prank me.
"But 30 seconds later, the person actually came back. He stuck his hand through the top window and shook the window grille so hard it created noise... he also tried to reach the bottom lock. We were in shock.
"I probably would have shouted for help or hit him with anything that I could reach, like my son's guitar."
Eventually her son's shouts of "police coming" deterred the man, who fled towards the lift lobby.
Madam Siti added: "I asked my son not to chase him as I was afraid he had a weapon."
The man is described as being in his mid-30s, tall, dark-skinned and with short, curly hair.
