Household Benefit Calculator 2009

This is what I got from the Budget website.

I thought there is really as much as $2800 plus,
as shown in the benefits when I inputed my data,
but the bulk of it is from the income tax rebate
and about $800 plus already given at the last
budget in 2007 for GST offsets

If we exclude those already declared in 2007,
and the income tax rebate, there are only 3 additional
components

Additional GST Credits
(including NS component where applicable)
$200.00

Additional Service and Conservancy
Charges (S&CC) Rebate
$30.98

Additional Property Tax Rebate
$45.00

Totalling $275.98

While I am thankful for the 20% discount off income tax,
I really wonder what about those who do not earn enough
to pay income tax.

Lets say 2 working adults with 2 kids earning $1500 each with
13th month bonus living in a 5 room flat.

Its only $475.98 (see the example below.

Announced in Budget 2009
Resilience Package 2009
Additional GST Credits
(including NS component where applicable)
$400.00

Additional Service and Conservancy
Charges (S&CC) Rebate
$30.98
Additional Property Tax Rebate
$45.00

Nevertheless, I shouldn't complain, any extras is good for
the people. But I would have preferred it if they had called
a spade, a spade instead of a Big Bulldozer.

Mine roughly same as yours. I think its probably due to staying in private property. That's why.

GST credits is more for those who don't need to pay much tax or any tax.
Income tax rebates is more for those who don't get much of GST credits. That means middle class.

Why do tax paying rich! who already got their income tax reduced,

The rich only get about $100, whereas the poor gets upwards of $400.
Even the middle class get only about 100-200.

Well, its not much reduction if you take the median income of $2500.
At $2500 X13 months, its only $32500, which I believe need not pay
any income tax.

Even at the 80th-90th percentile, base on the statistics, no one enjoys
the full $2000 reduction.

It would have benefited more people if it was just a straight $1000
tax rebate instead of 20% discount which only a minority will enjoy.

Bro, I think they derive the figure from
those who need to pay tax with earnings of more than 30K per annum which works out to be exactly $2500 a month.

Actually in every country, the rich will always pay more tax. To the rich, paying tax and to the poor paying tax(if he needs), a 5% mark will not hurt the rich too much, but its a burden to the poor.

The poor will always deem nothing is enough. The middle end will always think why I don't get as much as the poor. The rich will always say, knn, always don't have my share.

Good for the pple? you must be joking. AS long as those useless PAP mortals exist, there is nothing good for the people.

Haha, how true.
Can't complain too much, I'm just glad I am not receiving too much subsidies.

Wish they could do more for fellow Singaporeans who will be feeling the brunt of the slowdown very soon. Hope we get thru this downturn without too much stress.
