What do you think about the main character Dr. House?
I detest him. He may be a world class diagnostic doctor, but he's arrogant, uncouth, insensitive, cunning, bad tempered.

Then the actor, the producer , the director and screenwriter is very successful in making you feel so about the character.

please lah grow up. most doctors with good bedside manners are actually "killers" in disguise. I have yet to come across a doctor who is sensitive, good bedside manners, smile alot and yet have good clinical skills. give me a doctor like Dr House anytime. getting well or the right diagnosis is all that matters, unless you want to suffer under a "nice " doctor with good bedside skills bbut poor doctoring skills.
most doctors who smile alot and talk smoothly are actually trying to cover their ignorance or poor healing skills with such 'soft" skills. see hospitals nowadays with alot of junior doctors who talks nicely but wonder why so many mistakes happen with them around.

I agree with most of your comments.
Some doctors are polite to cover their technical inadequacies.
But what is worst are doctors who are only keen to make money and not to heal patients.
Once I encountered a dentist who asked me "How much is your dental benefit?"

Doctors who appear on Singapore Tatler or Prestige magazines to show off their new Porsche Boxster or Audemars Piguet, you expect them to display 醫者父母心？ Count your blessings if you come across one who can give a precise diagnosis, and not mistake SARS for common flu.

醫德 only exists among Chinese Physicians fraternity, which is why TCM is the only fraternity actively involved in FREE Clinic Service to the poor citizens. You don't see Western doctors doing that, do you ? They want your money to help them service their Orchard Boulevard apartment, their BMW 5 series and Breguet timepiece.

So next time you see a Chinese Physician, respect them.

Reason i watch House was....the character behave just like me.

I can be a real ass if I have to..and i wont be sorry for it. Main thing is to get things done.

Go get DVDs and watch some heavyweight classics like Only Fools And Horses, Yes Minister / Yes Prime Minister, Are You Being Served, Fawlty Tower etc.

For American TV, Remington Steele, Miami Vice and Seinfeld were serious goodies. If looking for serious comic laughs (pardon the pun), get MTV Beavis & Butthead. Never shown on Singapore free-to-air. Trust me, The Simpsons and King Of The Hill are no match for these two idiots.
