Seoul Race 1: Class 6 (1200M) Special Weight A / KRW 30 Million 11:45am SG
(3) ROAD TO A SPUR has made progress across his three starts so far, culminating in 2nd place over this distance on February 16th when leading until the final furling. He comes in fresh after ten weeks off and from a good draw can be on pace again and can go one better. (9) MUNHAK BELL has a 2nd and a 3rd from her latest two, both at this distance. She has the challenge of a slightly wide gate but is the main danger here. (11) NO PROBLEM debuted somewhat inauspiciously in December but looked much better when trialing again at the start of this month, running 2nd in a fair time. If he brings that form to the races, he should be a different prospect this time around. First time starter (4) THE SUN MONSTER, along with (6) SOON LIKE are others who may play a part.

Fillies only in this maiden. (4) YONGAM SARANG enters off a close 2nd place at 1200M on April 6th when she led for much of the way. In this company and very nicely drawn she can get an easy lead, and she can go all the way. (5) GIDAEHARA has made steady progress across three starts so far, most recently when 4th at this distance on March 30th. Moon Se-young gets on for the first time and she will be ridden forward and can be a danger. (6) UNJU TIME has a 3rd and a couple of 4th place finishes from her three appearances to date, settling back and running on each time and she can be there or thereabouts again today. (1) CUPID WORLD and (9) GLORY QUEEN are other place chances.

Selections(4) Yongam Sarang (5) Gidaehara (6) Unju Time (1) Cupid World

(2) GWANAKSAN CHECK IN enters having beaten three of today’s rivals on his way to 2nd place at this distance on March 27th when ridden on pace for the first time. From a good draw, expect similar tactics today, and he will be a short price favourite to go one better. (8) SEOUL NONGBU has a 5th and a 4th in two starts so far at 1200M and 1400M. Neither have been quick but in this company that’s enough for her to be considered the danger. (6) BLACK RUSSIAN was 5th behind Gwanaksan Check In in that March 27th race, settling midfield and running on. She will probably be ridden to the speed here and can be in this a long way. (7) THUNDER MARVEL and (10) TEN KOREA others who may improve.

Selections(2) Gwanaksan Check In (8) Seoul Nongbu (6) Black Russian (7) Thunder Marvel

(11) ARCH DAY scored her maiden win on her first try at this class and distance on March 29th, settling midfield before being quickly ridden up to lead. That win had been coming and while she does come up 2kg in weight, she can win again. (8) MAX PARTY also comes in having won at this class and distance last time out, in his case on March 30th when racing in midfield and finishing off smartly. He is up 3.5kg in weight but in the absence of much early speed, he can be on pace here and in the finish again. (5) VINCERO KING was 2nd at class and distance on March 1st, settling right back before running on. He remains under a light weight and is a place chance again. (2) SEONGSIL YEOGEOL and the returning (6) ENTROPY, the latter racing for the first time in a year but who looked well in a trial, are others to consider.

(8) WONDERFUL DONGCHON was a maiden winner two starts back before running 2nd on his first try at this class on February 22nd, leading for most of the way around. He comes in fresh off nine weeks rest and while he is slightly up in weight, he can lead again and this time win. (3) MR.STORM had a hard time from a wide draw over 1300M when slow away before finishing 6th. He comes into a much better gate and can attempt to emulate his all the way win two outings back. (5) CRAZY MANGO was an eye-catching winner at this distance on March 16th leading from gate to wire. He is up in class but is down in weight and can measure up. (2) BYEOKSONG and (6) VICTORY QUEEN are others in the frame.

(7) CUPID IT got his maiden win in emphatic fashion at start three before running 2nd in both efforts at class 5 level at 1300M, leading for much of the way both times. He is up in class again but is down in weight and dropping back to the distance at which he won, is the one to beat here. (10) LEMON K has won her last three, most recently beating a couple of these when leading all the way at this class and distance on March 15th. She comes up a full 4kg in weight but is not to be dismissed here. (6) TROT QUEEN has placed in both her latest two at this distance and staying under a light weight she can be in the mix again. (11) FINAL GO and (5) STAR TREK others who can go close in a competitive race.

Selections(7) Cupid It (10) Lemon K (6) Trot Queen (11) Final Go

(11) DIANA comes in having run 2nd in each of her last three outings, most recently at this class over 1200M on March 23rd, well beaten by a good winner but offering plenty herself. She has placed at this distance too and while she has the widest gate, she is tactically versatile, and she can win here. Should she find one too quick again today, then it might be (10) CHANG CHANG SOCKS. He was a winner at this class and distance as recently as January and came from off the pace to run 2nd on March 23rd, again at this distance. He carries 3.5kg more than he did in that win, but he has a strong finish and can be a danger late. (1) AWESOME BRAIN is the only other one who has won at the 1400M, something she did at class 5 level last January. She led in her latest at this class on March 29th, ultimately finishing 2nd, and from a good gate and under a light weight, can be in things again. (9) GOOD CHOEGANG, who has trialed well since his latest, along with (5) LUCKY FRANK are other place hopes.

Seoul Race 8: Class 4 (1800M) Handicap / KRW 75 Million
Fillies and mares only here. (10) ANDAMIRO is up in class following her second win at start number eight over 1200M on March 30th when settling midfield and proving too strong. She is down in weight and while significantly up in trip, she is a “full” sister to Global Hit so that latter point shouldn’t be an issue. She can measure up here. (3) BRIGHT WINNER didn’t run on when relatively well-supported over 1700M last time out but if we go on her start prior, when she was 2nd at this class and distance, she must be a chance. She draws nicely to settle just behind the lead here and has as good a chance as any. (8) BLAMING WAR is yet to finish any better than 4th but ran on well in her latest and the step up to 1800M may be just what she needs. (6) LONDON ACE and (7) SEUNGNI GONGJU are other place chances.

(9) TAEPYEONG LEGEND has won his latest two, both at a mile and most recently at this class on March 22nd when on pace throughout. He comes up a full 5.5kg in weight, as well as up to two turns for the first time but he still looks to have plenty of upside, and he can win again. (3) SMART CLAIR was a winner at this class and distance in December and has a 3rd and a 2nd in two subsequent starts, most recently on March 15th when the beaten favourite. He comes up 2kg in weight but that’s balanced by another good draw and all his four wins have come under Moon Se-young. He will though need to overturn the form on (8) HOLIDAY CHARM, who won March 15th race. He came back out to be 3rd on April 5th when coming from well off the pace and can be at least a place threat again. That April 5th race was in turn won by (11) ARGO RICH. Seeking a hat-trick here he is up in weight but is not to be dismissed. (4) G MOTION another place chance.

Selections(9) Taepyeong Legend (3) Smart Clair (8) Holiday Charm (11) Argo Rich.

(3) MIGHTY NEO is a winner of three from five, most recently at this class over a mile on March 15th when leading from gate-to-wire. He is up a full 5kg in weight, but he draws well, is two for two at this distance, and he will be one of the shortest priced favourites of the weekend. (9) SPALTA is up in class following an eye-catching all the way victory over 1200M on March 15th. He comes down in weight and having placed at this distance in the past, he can measure up in this company. (2) BEST TORCH was over matched in the Listed Donag Ilbo for fillies and mares at 1800M in February but prior to that placed twice in a row at this class and distance and back in more amenable company she should be close. (8) J. S ROAD and (7) EUNPA CHAMPION others in the placing frame.

RACE BY RACE PREVIEWS: TURFFONTEIN [email protected]

Turffontein Standside, 26.04.2025, Race 1, Gallops, 1100m, Turf, R250.000, 5:50PM SG

Race Summary:
ONE FINE WINTER was 2nd in a Grade 2 last time over a similar trip and need only reproduce that sort of performance to go one better in this Grade 3 opening event. GLASTONBURY is held on that form but shouldn’t be far off the mark. However, debut winners JINGLEBERRY and MALIBU could pose more of a threat with natural improvement expected.

Selections: #4 One Fine Winter, #2 Jingleberry, #3 Malibu, #1 Glastonbury

Turffontein Standside, 26.04.2025, Race 2, Gallops, 1100m, Turf, R300.000, 11:50GMT+2

Race Summary:
GREEN DIAMOND upstaged male opposition when winning a Grade 2 over a similar trip last time. She renews rivalry with KING HARALD on identical weight terms so should have his measure again. PORRIDGE BOY is also held on that form but is weighted to get closer on these revised weight terms. Debut winners KAALVOET and TIN PAN ALLEY could be anything so could pose more of a threat, though preference of the two is for the latter who justified market support when beating LAVA COUNTY (2kg better off) in his winning introduction.

Selections: #4 Green Diamond, #3 Tin Pan Alley, #5 Lava County, #2 King Harald

Turffontein Standside, 26.04.2025, Race 3, Gallops, 3200m, Turf, R400.000, 12:25GMT+2

Race Summary:
Maturing stayer MY SOUL MATE won a 2850m Listed race last time beating several re-opposing rivals and should, on similar weight terms, confirm her superiority over this extended distance. Runner-up EXPLOSIVE BOND is enjoys this trip but is 1.5kg worse off with her last-start conqueror. Veteran NEBRAAS, consistent TWENTY DRACHMA’S, course-and-distance winner BREEZE OVER and UNITED COUNCIL appeal most of the remainder.

Selections: #3 My Soul Mate, #7 Explosive Bond, #2 Nebraas, #8 Twenty Drachma’s

Turffontein Standside, 26.04.2025, Race 4, Gallops, 1160m, Turf, R350.000, 13:00GMT+2

Race Summary:
MIA MOO made a winning Highveld return in a course-and-distance Grade 3 event six weeks ago and a resultant 5-point penalty is unlikely to prevent another forward showing. KOMATI RIVER and CHROME TOURMALINE completed the Trifecta positions on that occasion and aren’t likely to reverse that form, given the unfavourable weight turnaround. A chance, however, is worth taking on ALMOND SEA turning the tables on 4kg better terms with her last-start conqueror. Highveld newcomer WHISTLE THE TUNE, versatile MINOGUE, returning GIMME A SHOT and consistent class-dropper TIME FO ORCHIDS complete the shortlist.

Selections: #7 Almond Sea, #4 Mia Moo, #9 Komati River, #2 Time Fo Orchids

Turffontein Standside, 26.04.2025, Race 5, Gallops, 2000m, Turf, R350.000, 13:35GMT+2

Race Summary:
Best-weighted older mare NONE OTHER and 4yo filly BEATING WINGS have the form and experience to play leading roles, especially under these conditions. However, younger rivals OLIVIA’S WAY (4th in a Grade 1 against male opposition) and familiar foe WORLD OF ALICE (touched off at this level last time) receive weight from that pair and could be better than rated so they could fight out the finish. Both COCOMELON and TODOQUE have a bit to find on recent form but could take home a cheque.

Selections: #6 Olivia’s Way, #7 World Of Alice, #8 Cocomelon, #1 Beating Wings

Turffontein Standside, 26.04.2025, Race 6, Gallops, 2000m, Turf, R500.000, 14:10GMT+2

Race Summary:
Filly LET’S GO NOW is favourably treated by the conditions and need only run to her rating to get the better of her male opposition. She was 2nd in an 1800m Listed race before finishing 4th (with blinkers fitted) over 1600m at Grade 1 level last time, and this extended distance, especially with the headgear removed, could be more to her liking. Stablemate HOTARUBI is weighted to be competitive too, though a bigger threat will likely come from course-and-distance specialist MARAUDING HORDE.

Selections: #7 Let’s Go Now, #2 Marauding Horde, #6 Royal Edition, #1 Hotarubi

Turffontein Standside, 26.04.2025, Race 7, Gallops, 1160m, Turf, R500.000, 14:45GMT+2

Race Summary:
MELECH and PISTOL PETE are closely matched on the form of their recent meeting in the Grade 1 Computaform Sprint over 1000m, though the latter is marginally better off on these revised weight terms. Last-start winners MOUNT PILATUS and TRUTH are thriving and should remain competitive for top honours, despite racing off career-high ratings. CHYAVANA and stablemate joint best-weighted filly CHASING HAPPINESS complete the shortlist.

Selections: #4 Truth, #3 Pistol Pete, #1 Melech, #2 Mount Pilatus

Turffontein Standside, 26.04.2025, Race 8, Gallops, 1600m, Turf, R160.000, 15:20GMT+2

Race Summary:
DOITWITHDIAMONDS has thrived since relocating to the Highveld and a 5-point penalty for her recent 1800m victory on this track shouldn’t prevent her from playing another leading role. Fellow last-start scorer KAMENSKY is progressive and could preserve his unbeaten course-and-distance record with further improvement expected, despite a 6-point rating rise. TWO MILES WEST, MOUNT DARWIN, DANCE KING and PRESLEY also have the means to get involved in the outcome.

Selections: #4 Kamensky, #9 Two Miles West, #3 Doitwithdiamonds, #10 Mount Darwin

Turffontein Standside, 26.04.2025, Race 9, Gallops, 1100m, Turf, R125.000, 15:55GMT+2

Race Summary:
LONGSWORD edged VIBE SA in an 1160m meeting on this course earlier in the year but a 1.5kg difference in the weights could swing this rematch in favour of the latter. Last-start course-and-distance winner BLIZZARD SNOW, recent maiden scorer HEMISPHERE and versatile class-dropper OPEN HIGHWAY (with 4kg apprentice engaged) are other genuine candidates for success. Hard-knocker TCHAIKOVSKY and lightly raced filly ROAMING SPIRIT have earning potential too.

Selections: #7 Vibe Sa, #5 Longsword, #13 Hemisphere, #8 Open Highway

Turffontein Standside, 26.04.2025, Race 10, Gallops, 1400m, Turf, R100.000, 16:30GMT+2

Race Summary:
OBSIDIAN was an authoritative winner of a course-and-distance maiden 5 weeks ago and he need not improve much to make a winning handicap debut. Versatile veteran WRITTEN IN STONE has a useful record over this trip so could trouble the selection, along with hard-knockers SAIL THE SKY, GUERILLA WARFARE and Highveld newcomer UNSOLVED RIDDLE.

Selections: #1 Obsidian, #7 Written In Stone, #3 Guerilla Warfare, #8 Sail The Sky

Turffontein Standside, 26.04.2025, Race 11, Gallops, 1160m, Turf, R90.000, 17:05GMT+2

Race Summary:
Many with chances in a trappy ‘Lucky Last’ but none appeals more than consistent CAPTAIN EFFICIENT who wouldn’t be winning out of turn. PRIZED PLATINUM is closely matched with that rival on recent form but is worse off at the weights after a recent 2nd in KZN. Stablemates SAKHALA IS’CATHULO and MARIACHI MADNESS have the form and experience at this level to make their presence felt, along with COMMANDER OF ALL and veteran hard-knocking mares SAMOA and DANCING DORA.

Selections: #3 Captain Efficient, #5 Prized Platinum, #2 Sakhala Is’Cathulo, #7 Mariachi Madness

Best Win: #1 OBSIDIAN

Best Value Bet: #4 KAMENSKY

Best Longshot: #4 KAMENSKY
