Students at 20 universities in Taiwan have set up Facebook groups dedicated to one-night stands, causing a buzz in the nation's media. The founder of the first group said she was trying to raise awareness of women's sexual needs in the country, reports our Chinese-language sister newspaper China Times.

A student at Shih Hsin University in Taipei, she said she wanted to challenge traditional patriarchal attitudes towards women and protest against the double standards which say that men can admit to wanting sex but women are obliged to act as if they don't have the same needs. Women's desires have been oppressed by the country's education system, she told SHUnewssong, the university's independent newspaper. She has since closed the Facebook group, however, since most of the participants were men.

This has not deterred other Taiwanese students around the country, however. Around 20 universities in central and northern Taiwan have established similar groups with around a hundred new members a day.

NTU Swing, the Facebook group for one-night stands founded by a student of Taiwan's top university National Taiwan University, called on its fans to take the matter seriously and recognize its social responsibility.

A male student at National Cheng Kung University in southern Taiwan does not believe anyone would get a single chance through these groups. Another female student of National Kaohsiung University said the issue should not be linked with schools.
