When it becomes a challenge just by taking the bus home or to work...
I AM writing this letter because I am fearful for my safety and those of other passengers of public buses nowadays.
On May 23, I took a U3 Bus from the Titiwangsa terminal to Selayang Baru at 9.47pm.
The journey was a nightmare.
Along the way, a group of young hooligans started attacking other passengers. Nobody was brave enough to stop them, not even the driver.
They also bullied two passengers and fought among themselves.
When the bus pulled over at a stop, the hooligans snatched the bags of a woman and an old man before running away.
If I recalled correctly, the woman wanted to disembark at the front door but the driver was insistent that all passengers get off through the rear exit, where the hooligans awaited.
I was lucky to escape unscathed as I demanded the driver open the front door.
I am urging the police, Rapid KL and all concerned parties to help curb such menace.
Bus companies must install CCTVs in their buses.
They are providing a public service and have a duty to ensure the safety of passengers.
I am concerned that if the authorities do not crack down on the social ill, many more Selayang Baru passengers including myself could be victimised next.
U3 PASSENGER,
Selangor.
