What is going to happen!:(
Dear Zeit,
The thing is that Honda is currently facing financial turmoil and F1 is a luxury they can least afford at this time.
If you look at the proposed changes for the 2010 season, a single engine manufacturer is on the cards. Folks in Ferrari, Toyota and Renault
are deadset against such a new ruling, simply because it will no longer be what it used to be - manufacturers with tech and financial advantage pushing the limit of development.
It all started with the removal of driver aids such as traction control and onboard automatic wing adjusters, this is technology that so examplifies F1, but the FIA ruled against that and now we have seen spectacular crashes that would have killed drivers like Kubica and Kovalainnen the last season if not for their better designed monococks and HANS. If that had happened a mere 2 seasons ago we would have had two deaths in a season of two of the top 4 drivers.
While it is all good that the FIA wants to reduce cost for smaller and less wealthier teams, it defeats the whole purpose of F1 as the technical and technological advantage sets the pace for all cars both in GP racing and on the roads.
Normal road cars have benefitted so much from F1 developments, now the FIA wants to go 'retro'. This is a shame. Then it would be no better than the lesser known less popular A1GP and just as dangerous as the races in the early 80's and 90's.
So come 2010, perhaps there will not be anymore F1 races with the big 4 in it. Now that will indeed be a shame.
We'll wait for March to see what else is in store as the FIA generally comes out with policy before the season starts.
Cheers,
