SINGAPORE — Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the water industry that are keen to commercialise their technologies can tap a grant to test their ideas.
The PUB and SPRING Singapore are launching the second grant call for SMEs to develop and validate water technologies. Companies can test their technologies alongside existing processes in the PUB’s facilities. These include reservoirs, drains, canals, water quality labs, waterworks, service reservoirs, drinking water pipes, sewers, water reclamation plants and NEWater factories.
SPRING Singapore will fund projects leading to the development of water technologies.
The first joint grant call was launched in 2012 and awarded last year. Seven local enterprises were granted S$2.5 million in total to develop innovative used-water treatment technologies. The PUB and SPRING Singapore said the second grant call extends the scope beyond used-water treatment technologies to encompass all areas of the water cycle.
PUB chief technology officer Harry Seah said: “We are focused on developing technologies that will ensure affordable and sustainable water supply. These could be related to various aspects of the water loop, such as reducing energy or chemical consumption, minimising waste, protecting water quality or improving water security.”
SPRING Singapore deputy chief executive, Mr Ted Tan, said the authorities were pleased with the progress of the first grant call and hope more SMEs and start-ups would seize the opportunity.
“SPRING continues to look for good partners to create an environment that fosters collaboration between large enterprises and SMEs. Through such partnerships, we hope to accelerate the journey from technology conceptualisation to commercialisation for our local enterprises,” he said.
The deadline for submission of proposals is Aug 29. CHANNEL NEWSASIA
