Stinky tofu, one of Taiwan's specialties, has been described as a delicious snack best enjoyed while holding your breath in the latest issue of the German magazine BEEF.
The article, which introduced popular street food in Taiwan and different stinky tofu recipes, suggested its readers hold their breath while enjoying the snack due to its strong odor.
BEEF, which specializes in exploring food culture and exotic cuisine around the world, also featured a restaurant in Tainan in southern Taiwan.
The restaurant's steamed tofu in a spicy hot pot made with over 40 Chinese medicine ingredients tasted as tender as cheese does in Western dishes, the article said.
In addition, the magazine offered a glimpse of the creativity of Taiwan's food culture by introducing a lineup of tofu-related foods and beverages, such as soy milk, tofu ice cream and stinky tofu rolls.
